Coronelli, Vincenzo, 1650-1718

Coronelli was a Venetian map and globe maker and a Minorite friar at both San Nicolo della Lattuga and Santa Maria Bloriosa dei Frari in Venice. He was also a Doctor of Theology at Collegium Santo Bonaventura in Rome in 1673, founded of the Accademia Cosmografica degli Argonauti in 1684 in Venice, became the Cosmographer to the Republic of Venice in 1685, and set up a globe-making workshop in the convent of Venice in 1686. He produced a pair of globes for Louis XIV in 1683. The Yale Map Department has 27 maps (14 globe gores), and 2 globes (one celestial, one terrestrial) by Coronelli in its Collection.
