Barcoding

Creating Item Records

To create item record, choose “New Items” from the toolbar. The screen below will open:

Scan the attached barcode with barcode scanner.

Save to database.

Close all records.

Pre-1850 Maps

If a pre-1850 map is encased in mylar, create an item record and affix a barcode to the lower verso (front) right corner of the mylar. If a pre-1850 map is not encased in mylar, do not create an item record or barcode.

Post-1850 Maps

For maps published post-1850 to 1920, barcode only those items which are encased in mylar. Create an item record and affix a barcode to the lower verso (front) right corner of the mylar.

For maps published 1920 and beyond, if item is encased in mylar, create an item record and affix a barcode to the lower vero (front) right corner of the mylar. For post-1920 maps which are too brittle or otherwise in poor condition, do not create an item record or barcode.

If not encased in mylar, create an item record and affix a barcode to the lower verso (front) right corner of the map. If there is no room to affix a barcode (e.g. it would cover any text on the map) on the verso (front) of the map, affix a barcode to the recto (back) left corner of map.
